Monday's Beginnings (86)

Well, it's Monday...

How are you faring at the beginning of this week?  Are you starting a new book or finishing one up?

Well, I didn't get much reading done over the weekend.  With the weather starting to break (even with the rain) we have been running around a lot lately.  Friday we went to check out a campground (which we decided to not do this year).  Saturday, I went a few different places:  Pittsburgh Comic Convention with my brother (which I will post on later) then to our Aunts house to visit with family from Montana that was visiting, then after I dropped him off my husband, son, and I went to a friends house.  Then Sunday I was exhausted.  But I took the girls (my two German Shepard puppies) to PetSmart for some new chew toys, stopped at Target for the new Harry Potter movie, and off to my dads for a visit.  Along with the grocery store visit then finally got home last night to read for a short time.  I was ready for bed by 10.  Yep, I think age is starting to catch up with me ~ AND I'M NOT THAT OLD!  Yes, that is a reminder to myself. lol.

But, I did get a Review Posted: (click title to go to)
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

I finished:
Billibub Baddings and the Case of The Singing Sword by Tee Morris on Friday.  So I'm planning on doing this review soon.

I'm Currently Reading:
Road Trip of the Living Dead by Mark Henry ~ I will be finishing this book this week.  Which our last discussion post for this book will be up on Thursday.  I do hope those of you who have read it will join in!
Iron King by Julie Kagawa ~ I'm reading this over two weeks with some friends and chatting on Twitter about it as we go.  If you're curious the hashtag is #IKChat  But this book is going quickly for me. :)

As for my WANT list... I've added 12 books to the list last week! Wooo. Now that is an amazing WANTing week.  You all are starting to circulate some amazing sounding new books.  Thank you!

I did another Flash Fiction post on Friday.  If you would like to stop by and read it, you can do so here.

Received Last Week:
Purchased:
I had mentioned last Monday that I purchased a few books and was waiting for them to come from Borders.com.  Well, they showed up...

Goodreads Synopsis:
Whenever Corine Solomon touches an object, she immediately knows its history. But the future concerns her more when former ally Kel Ferguson wlaks through her door with a warning for her: the Montoya cartel is coming for her-but they don't just pack guns. They use warlocks, shamans and voodoo priests. And Corine has become enemy number one...

Goodreads Synopsis:
Sirantha Jax doesn’t take chances…she jumps at them…

Sirantha Jax is a “Jumper,” a woman who possesses the unique genetic makeup needed to navigate faster than light ships through grimspace. Jax has worked for the Farwan Corporation her entire career. But now the word’s out that the Corp deliberately crashed a passenger ship, and their stranglehold on intergalactic commerce has crumbled—which means that Jax is out of a job.

She’s also broke, due to being declared dead a little prematurely. So when the government asks her to head up a vital diplomatic mission, Jax takes it. Her mandate: journey to the planet Ithiss-Tor and convince them to join the Conglomerate.

But Jax’s payday is light years away. First, she’ll have to contend with Syndicate criminals, a stormy relationship with her pilot, man-eating aliens, and her own grimspace-weakened body. She’ll be lucky just to make it to Ithiss-Tor alive…

And since I seem to know be able to stay out of a bookstore, I did visit to get a book for a friend and just had to walk around to shelf shop.  And there on the sale rack were a few AMAZING books I've been wanting.  Are you ready for these?

I got this one for $5.99 then got the 33% AND 10% off when I bought it!  UnReal!  I had to ask the clerk what was wrong with the book.  He said nothing, they just put certain books on sale and when the number they had set aside is gone they go back to regular price.  WoW!
Goodreads Synopsis:
Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

I got this one for $4.99 and the 10% off as well.  Another Unreal find!
Goodreads Synopsis:
For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

Winnings:
I won the first 2 books in this series from Vision Quest Fail.  Thank you!  They are both signed by the author with some bookmarks and a lovely note saying congrats from the author, Erin Kellison.  I've been wanting these books and I'm so excited to have won them!
Goodreads Synopsis:
Death
Some people will do anything to avoid it. Even trade their immortal souls for endless existence.

Wraiths
Secretly, inexorably, they are infiltrating our world, sucking the essence out of unsuspecting victims with their hideous parody of a kiss.

Segue
Adam Thorne founded the Institute to study and destroy his monster of a brother, but the key to its success is held in the pale, slender hand of a woman on the run. There is something hauntingly different about Talia O’Brien, her unknowing sensuality, her uncanny way of slipping into Shadow.

Twilight
This is the place between life and what comes after - a dark forest of fantasy, filled with beauty, peril, mystery. And Talia is about to open the door.

Goodreads Synopsis:
Custo Santovari is a fallen hero, a man who sacrificed himself for his best friend, an angel who's earned himself a well-deserved place in Heaven. But he risks it all to rescue a woman from soul-sucking wraiths.

Well, I'm going to have to get working on reading as my hands are working faster than my eyes these days, with buying faster than I can read.  lol.  Easter weekend is on its way so maybe while we are driving I can read some.  But, hoping for a great week here.

How are you looking to far this week?  Does it look like a good reading week for you?

Here's to wishing you all the best in words and pages.
