Movie Review: The Warrior's Way

The Warriors Way

Released:  2010

Rated:  R

Genre:  Action, Fantasy, Western

Length:  100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes)

Recommendation:  Yes, for action and fighting.  And hell just for the ninja action! lol. Enjoyable in a strange ninja meets wild (crazy) west kind of way.

Synopsis:
Yuan, the world's finest swordsman, packs it in and leaves China to find an old friend in the Wild West rather than kill the infant queen of a rival clan.  He carries the baby to his friend's desolate, broken-down town; the friend has died, so Yuan reopens a laundry and settles down, hanging wet clothes, growing flowers, raising the infant, and finding himself attracted to Lynne, a red-haired woman with a tragic past.  As long as Yuan keeps his sword sheathed his rivals wont find him, but a band of reprobate gunmen terrorize the town and threaten Lynne.  Showdowns are inevitable, but once the sword is drawn, can Yuan find rest, a home, and a family?

My Thoughts and Summary:
Yuan wanted to be the strongest and the fastest warrior ever.  Through training, he is.  As part of his clan, of assassins, they fight to kill off another clan.  When Yuan comes to the last member of the opposing clan, he can't kill her - she's a baby.  Now wanted dead by his clan for not doing what they are to do, he goes to a far away land to visit a friend -- the wild west.  His friend is gone, but he stays in this broken circus town.  Until a group of mean cowboys come and the song of his blade sings again, calling to the ninjas after him.

This reminded me of a ninja movie meets cowboys, in a circus town.  I actually liked this one.  We start off strong with the the action of the blade, then slow to get to know everyone, and back at it we go.  It was very neat to watch when he went into action, and even with bullets at times, they used the Matrix slow motion affect on it.  Seeing the ninjas was cool too.  I loved the armor and the way they moved.  Just cool.  We also see a man determined to save a life, yet has to make the tough choice of staying or going.

The characters of the town are corky, and I liked them.  We have Geoffrey Rush (who was Barbosa in Pirates of Caribbean movies), who stars in this movie as a drunk.  But there is more to his character we learn as the movie goes on.  Geoffrey is also the voice over telling the story, in the beginning and in the end.

Lots of bang, fighting, and swords flying.  I will warn, there is blood, lots of blood.

My husband watched this one with me, and kind of liked it too.  It wasn't the best and most outstanding movie out there, but definitely a fun watch for us.  Husband even went as far to speculate that they could (though probably won't) make a next movie.  He thought there was a thread left for a small possibility.  Yes, maybe, but I seriously doubt it'll happen, but then again...

I have to add... We didn't mail the movie back as quickly as normal, and we watched it again this past weekend.  Husband really enjoyed this one, from what I can see.  And, I have to say I just Love the ninja parts.  When they show up, it's just cool to watch.  Sorry, I really liked it.  Just one of those things that sticks with you.  And the fighting is just to cool. lol.
